Karl joined Watson Millican & Co. in 2025 and has more than 30 years of international engineering, project and construction management experience working for both owners and EPC(M) contractors.

He has worked in project planning and development, project execution and management, constructability, supply chain, project controls and risk management, with experience working globally on mega-projects and operations readiness.

Example Engagements
  • Executive Project Director: Led the development and delivery of the Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 (QB2) project, a 140,000 TPD copper concentrator facility and associated infrastructure in the Atacama Desert of Chile. The scope and responsibility included all facets from mine development to construction of a grass roots concentrator plant, tailings management facility, 165km of pipelines and 220kV transmission system, port filtering and load-out facilities (including desalination plant) and all related infrastructure.
  • Senior Vice President-Engineering & Construction: Led the development of the 80,000 bpd Sturgeon Refinery in the Heartland of Alberta, Fort Saskatchewan. Project achieved Mechanical Completion in May 2018 and has been producing low sulfur diesel ever since. Led the Owners team project delivery and site/project management of 6 different EPC/EPCM contractors, who successfully and safely turned over the plant (unit by unit) to the Integrated Commissioning and Start-up Team.
  • Director of Project Management & Construction: Led the delivery of several international major study/projects in the Mining, Metals and Energy business units Notable Projects included the Ravensthorpe Nickel Project, Fort Hills Ore Preparation Plant,  The Koniambo Nickel Project and  the El Morro Copper Concentrator. Worked in partnership with Owner as the EPCM provider in Canada, Australia, New Caledonia and Chile.
  • Civil Engineer and Sr. Project Manager:  Commenced career in engineering and eventually promoted to project management working in the Oil & Gas business unit of a major contractor. Roles included Project/Area Manager, Pre-Commissioning and Turnover Coordinator, General Superintendent and and Field Engineer in the USA, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Philippines and Venezuela.
  • Pre-Commissioning Manager and Area/Engineering Manager in Manila, Philippines.
