Nic Rigby

Nic has been working as an expert witness since 2014 and recently joined Watson Millican & Co as a Consulting Associate and renewable energy expert witness. He has 30 years experience in the power generation sector of which the last 20 years has been dedicated to renewables and grid matters. He is an experienced contract manager and commercial engineer and has managed both the development and ongoing management of all forms of contracts in the energy sector including construction, Power Purchase Agreements and Contracts for Difference. He has been responsible for the settlement of many high profile disputes in the renewables and grid sectors.

Example Engagements

  • Nic was Dispute Director for the Greater Gabbard windfarm project dispute and resolved probably the highest value dispute in the renewables sector at $500m at the time. He has also managed international teams of contract managers delivering optimum project outcomes through effective claims management and early dispute resolution.
  • Acted for investors by advising on $50m dispute resolution and contract management re. construction of offshore and onshore substations on a 350 MW UK offshore windfarm.
  • Expert witness re quantum and technical issues on a dispute relating to supply of grid equipment for upgrade of National Grid Transmission System. Settled prior to UK Technology and Construction Court hearing. Advised client at what level to settle dispute based on quantum analysis of claims raised by both parties to the dispute.
  • Part way through construction, initial contract for substation on a German offshore wind project had to be terminated and a new contractor installed. Managed process of changing contractor which resulted in project acceleration. Also managed teams working on turbine supply, jackets, heavy lift installation of all of these and cable supply and installation.
  • Sponsored by Rolls Royce, International Airlines Group, Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Shell, Manchester Airport Group and others to work with UK Department of Transport (DfT) to develop a CfD to support Sustainable Aviation Fuel(SAF). Demonstrated feasibility of CfD to support SAF and then seconded into DfT to prepare for implementation.
